Boost Your Metabolism!
In order to start melting fat off your body, your metabolism needs to get fired up. The most common way of doing this is by exercising. When you exercise, you get your heart-rate going, and your body’s metabolic process starts burning off the excess fat you have stored up. Did you know that there are other things that you can do to boost your metabolism?
Transform your body from flabby to fit by burning off excess fat! Combining the right nutrition and targeted exercise will help you be able to go after the flab for good.
Boost Your Metabolism: Foods and Supplements
Water: You need to stay hydrated if you want to keep your metabolism fired up. Your metabolic process relies on water to burn calories. According to a recent study conducted at the University of Utah, people who were dehydrated burned calories at a rate that was two percent lower than other participants! Stay totally hydrated all day long. Period. Drink TONS of water.
Iron: Eating foods like spinach, lean meat, and shellfish can give you a great boost of iron. Iron is essential for you if you’re looking to burn fat, since it helps carry oxygen to your muscles. Be sure to not exceed the recommended dosage, since high doses may be harmful.
Vitamin D: Ahh, the sunlight vitamin! Getting “the D” is essential to help get your metabolism fired up. Your recommended daily value of Vitamin D is 600 IU. If you eat a 3 1/2 ounce serving of salmon, that will give you 400 IU, which is almost 90% of your recommended daily value. Want more Vitamin D? Try a Vitamin D supplement, and go out in the sun for a few minutes a day!
Watermelon: Arginine is an amino acid which has been shown by the Journal of Nutrition to help promote weight loss. It helps to increase lean muscle, and helps with the oxidation of fat and glucose. Watermelon contains a lot of arginine, as does seafood and nuts.
Calcium: Having a calcium deficiency has been shown to slow down your metabolism. Consuming foods rich in calcium will help to get your metabolism fired up. If you’re lactose intolerant, take a look at taking some calcium supplements.
Turkey: Low in fat, it contains only one gram of fat per ounce. A five-ounce serving will give you about half of your daily serving of folic acid. It also contains potassium, zinc, vitamin B, vitamin B1, and vitamin B6.
Green Tea: According to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, a study showed that green tea extract (ECGC) helped burn more calories than people who chose to only ingest caffeine. ECGC is a powerful antioxidant that has been shown to help boost your metabolism, providing fat-burning benefits as well as helping to detoxify the body.
These are just a handful of supplements and foods that can help you boost your metabolism. What we’d like to do in the future is to dive in deeper into some of the specifics of a few of these. One supplement that we want to study in-depth is Green Tea, since it has shown to have many benefits besides only for weight loss.
